Omarosa Manigault-Newman is going after President Donald Trump and his administration with a book entitled “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House” set to be released on Aug. 14.
Omarosa Manigault Newman may have been clueless about how to play nice at the White House but she’s proving to be skillful at promoting her “tell-all” book about her brief time there with leaked hints and allegations.
The latest semi-juicy tidbit about the forthcoming “Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House,” landed Wednesday in The Daily Beast, which reported that the flamboyant former reality-TV star secretly taped her conversations with President Donald Trump on her smartphone.
Omarosa could be reached for comment on whether or not this is true about the book, out on Aug. 14. But her publisher, Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, said in a statement to USA TODAY:
“Without commenting on the specific contents of “Unhinged,” we are confident that Omarosa Manigault Newman can substantiate her highly-anticipated account of life inside the Trump White House.”
So maybe there are tapes and maybe not. But in any case, these alleged recorded conversations were about…well, not much of anything, apparently. Just “anodyne, everyday chatter” between Omarosa and Trump, her one-time mentor and boss on “The Apprentice” and the man to whom she pledged undying loyalty.
“The mere existence of such recordings represent a dramatic betrayal of trust by a one-time Trump confidant who has since abandoned years of professed loyalty to the president and has apparently decided to profit off her years of closeness to Trump,” The Daily Beast sniffed.
The president has already demonstrated he’s not a fan of being secretly recorded — as his ex-attorney Michael Cohen learned when Trump found out Cohen had secretly taped his former client. (“What kind of a lawyer would tape a client?” Trump tweeted angrily.)
But the longtime mutual admiration between Trump and Omarosa evaporated for good in December, when she was terminated and escorted from the White House complex following a turbulent year when she was a presidential assistant who clashed with people she shouldn’t have clashed with.
Almost immediately (well, after a stint on “Celebrity Big Brother”) Omarosa started hinting ominously in public about what she saw in the White House and how she could produce a blockbuster book about the “uncomfortable” and “upsetting” things that happened.
“When I have the chance to tell my story, it’s quite a story to tell,” she said on “Good Morning America” shortly after her departure was announced. “As the only African American in this White House… I have seen things that made me uncomfortable, upset me… and affected my community and my people.”
Once the book was announced, Gallery Books began promoting it as an “explosive, jaw-dropping account” of her time with the Trump campaign and administration. She seemingly began baiting Trump, adding the hashtag: “#ComeClean45” to a tweet advertising the Amazon page for the book.
Then last week Britain’s The Daily Mail reported Omarosa claims in the book to know what was going on in Trump’s brain during her tenure in the White House – and it wasn’t good.
While watching an interview Trump gave, Omarosa “realized that something real and serious was going on in Donald’s brain,” according to an excerpt the Mail obtained by means it did not explain.
“His mental decline could not be denied. Many didn’t notice it as keenly as I did because I knew him way back when. They thought Trump was being Trump, off the cuff. But I knew something wasn’t right.”
