A cat sanctuary has the overwhelming task of sifting through thousands of applications after posting online about what countless people have called their “dream job”.
God’s Little People Cat Rescue is seeking a mature cat lover to take over the daily operations of the sanctuary on the Greek island of Syros.
The organisation described the role on Facebook and said the successful applicant would have 55 cats in their care and be required to take up residence in a quaint home with ocean views.
And if it sounds too good to be true – it’s not.
“This is genuine and NOT a joke,” the post said.
“As part of the job you’ll have a fully paid (incl. water & electricity) semi-detached modern tiny house with it’s own garden (direct view to the Aegean Sea!) plus a salary.”
But it’s not all patting furry felines and relaxing in paradise – the animals need to be fed and medicated.
Knowing about cats psychology is desirable and the successful applicant might be expected to trap or handle feral or non-sociable cats.
Additionally, the person will be be required to take ill cats to the vet so would need to be able to drive a manual car.
Many believe they would be the “purrrfect fit” for the job, with one writing online: “This is what I consider heaven on earth.”
“My wife & I will do this for free,” another said.
But cats are not everyone’s cup of tea.
“I am allergic to cats and actually dont like them much. I would also need double the salary. And satellite TV” one person wrote.
Another said: “Um no way!! U (sic) can take that job.”
More than 20,000 people have commented on the Facebook post since it was uploaded a week ago and The Telegraph reports 3000 applications have been sent in.
The most suitable candidates will be contacted by Skype at the end of the month.
