President Donald Trump on Friday blasted media coverage of the Russia probe and was scheduled to undergo his second physical examination since taking office.
On Twitter, Trump complained that the mainstream media “has refused” to cover comments made this week by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr.
The North Carolina Republican told CBS that, to date, his panel hadn’t found evidence of collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow. “If we write a report based upon the facts that we have, then we don’t have anything that would suggest there was collusion by the Trump campaign and Russia,” said Burr.
Burr also told CBS the committee’s work isn’t finished and that some questions could occupy the panel for “the next decade.”
As he did earlier this week, Trump ripped House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, a California Democrat who said his panel would reopen its own Russia probe. The president cited an op-ed in the Hill that raised questions about an encounter between Schiff and a witness in the Russia probe. Spokesmen said the meeting was brief and social.
On the same day Trump tweeted about the Russia probe, Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker told members of the House Judiciary Committee that he hadn’t discussed Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation with the president. Mueller is probing Russian interference in the 2016 election and any possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow. Trump has denied any wrongdoing.
Trump went for his annual physical after doctors last year recommended the 72-year-old commander in chief lose weight and exercise more.
Hogan Gidley, a White House spokesman, told CNN that Trump hasn’t “religiously” followed his diet and exercise plan, before the president headed to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. This year’s exam will be performed by Sean Conley, who replaced Ronny Jackson as physician to the president.
